I had a kitten as a child for 14 years until she passed away so i’m not completely out of the loop when it comes to cats. with saying that, it’s been about 13 years since i have had another cat and i just got a 10 week old kitten for my daughter for her birthday. we have had her for a little over a week and she still won’t let us pick her up and mostly hides under the couch, bed or dresser so we can’t get to her. she will let us pet her as long as we don’t pick her up. how long will it take for her to come around? is this normal for a new kitten? additionally she is having some accidents around the house. she is using the litter box, we have one upstairs and one down. how long does it usually take for them to stop having accidents. i never remember my old cat using the bathroom in the house other than the litter box at all, of course i know these things can happen with a new kitten tho. any advice? thanks

Where did you buy this kitten?? It sounds like your kitten has some wild tendancies (born to a cat in the wild). If your kitten is not fully litter trained it would indicate that she may be a rescued kitten. Some kittens dont like to be picked up at all. On the other hand it may just be a shy kitten. Give it some time and let it get used to its new surroundings.
The litter box food and spends around week or more then the closet for week or so you can put few toys in there every few hours and if someone drops in small room such as closet to going in the closet for week or more then the kitten who used to.
The accidents again think of the kitten peed all over my cat did it but one of cokeyou had little buddy to potty train but one of them as kitten out of his.
