Co-Producers: Dan Guerrero and Nancy de los Santos, 2006, USA, 53 min. Screening at 10th International Latino Film Festival – San Francisco Bay Area on 11/10/2006 @ 6:00 PM – @ MACLA Castellano Playhouse (San Jose) 11/15/2006 @ 7:00 PM – @ Skyline College (San Bruno ) This is an original documentary about the groundbreaking and genre-defying musician who both documented and inspired the emergence of Chicano culture as an alternative to mainstream Mexican and American societies in the 20th century with his songs. Musicians Ry Cooder and Linda Ronstadt, UFW co-founder Dolores Huerta, actors Edward James Olmos and Cheech Marin, and others describe the influence of Guerrero’s music on the burgeoning hybrid Mexican-American culture in both personal and professional capacities. Re-enactments, historical photographs, newsreels, and television clips from the Guerrero Family Trust illustrate not only the story of Guerrero’s rise from the son of a railroad worker to musical stardom, but also the story of the Chicano struggle to be recognized as a growing majority. The undisputed star of the film is Lalo himself, who recounts his life story with humor, insight, and humility.

ANOTHER ROAD HOME is the deeply moving story of Israeli filmmaker, Danae Elon’s quest to find Musa Obeidallah, the Palestinian man who helped raise her from the time she was a baby until she joined the Israeli army. Elon’s emotional and physical journey takes her from her current home in New York to an Arab-American neighborhood in New Jersey, and finally to the West Bank and Jerusalem. This evocative documentary by the daughter of the famous Israeli author, Amos Elon, reaches out with unsentimental acuity seasoned by deep affection, to all who believe in the power of family, trust and friendship. —-SELECTED PRESS REVIEWS AND REACTIONS Forget Batman and the other superheroes of summer: The bravest, most self-sacrificing and morally acute leading man on screen this year is surely Musa, who at 76 has reared an astonishingly handsome and accomplished family, and who betrays no bitterness toward the obstacles put in his way…if ever there was a movie that should be seen by Palestinians and Jews together, it’s “Another Road Home,” a deeply personal portrait of how politics have informed — and often deformed — the purest human relationships. “Another Road Home” …vividly conveys life in both the Palestinian and Jewish diaspora…is full of heart-rending moments, in which people of good faith search for answers……transcends politics to become a film about finding hope in shared humanity. –Ann Hornaday, The Washington Post Touching, painful and powerfully affecting …
